RUF lines can be placed on ground, under ground or as an elevated monorail.

The center line of a highway is a very attractive possibility, especially if there is a wide median available.

A tunnel tube can be used by 3 rails. This is a big advantage, since rush hour traffic most often is uneven in both directions. By having a third reversible rail, the capacity of the tube can be used very efficiently. The third rail can also be used for emergency evacuation of the tube.

In mountain regions, a RUF system has several advantages. The special drive system allows for rather steep grades (20%) in all kind of wheather. Also because the rail is elevated, the animal life will not be affected by the traffic. Since there is no pollution along the rail and very low noise, the nature will not suffer from a RUF line.
