As a consequence of your presentation of the RUF concept at the conference: "New Visions in Transportation" in Aspen, Colorado, 18-20 Oct. 2000, I am convinced that the development of the RUF concept will contribute significantly to solving the massive traffic problems in all developed countries.

The dualmode system that RUF represents is a new possibility with great potential. It is able to combine the car convenience with the efficiency known from guideway systems -Personal Rapid Transit (PRT).

RUF is far superior to the proposed Automated Highway System. RUF is safer, faster and better for the environment. It is also much more realistic to implement, since it doesn't interfere with the existing highway system.

RUF is also a solution to the implementation of electric vehicles, required by the ZEV mandate in California. The battery problem known from ordinary electric vehicles is solved by using power from the guideway to recharge the batteries.

As president of the Advanced Transit Association (ATRA), I strongly support the attempts to fully develop and test the RUF concept.

Sincerely,

Dennis Manning
